Lauren D'ambrosio

Biography/ Artist's Statement

Lauren D’Ambrosio (she/her) is an emerging artist based in Vaughan, Ontario. Her practice explores the materiality of paint in relation to subject matter in both abstract and representational ways. She will be receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a minor in Social Sciences from OCAD University in Spring of 2022. Lauren also works as an arts instructor and a freelance artist.

She is currently using her work to address the complexity of grief in reference to her lived experiences and memories through paintings wrapped in knitted yarn. She references the dichotomy between the stagnation of loss and the malleability of memory. This is reflected in the covering and revealing of each painted imaged. Having a knitted, protective barrier between artwork and viewer brings vulnerability, comfort and mortality into conversation.
